Perfectly shaped and white teeth will make anyone look good and this is why many people opt in for a cosmetic dental treatment. There are many specialization areas of cosmetic dentistry and most of private clinics in North London offer full range of cosmetic treatments.

For patients who have discoloured teeth, North London dentists offer teeth whitening treatments. It is absolutely normal that teeth become discoloured over the years, as they are stained by food and drink. Whitening is a good way of improving the shade of your teeth and to make a brighter smile. The whitening treatments are only available at private clinics. At first consultation for tooth whitening, your dentist will tell you what you can expect for your specific smile. The structure of your teeth and the type of teeth whitening procedure affects the outcome. A change of two or three shades will make a significant difference in the appearance of your teeth. However, each person’s teeth are different and the final result might differ between individuals. There are a few teeth whitening procedures available. In some cases, your dentist may use special bleach like chemicals to clean the stains and the yellow colouring on your teeth. Additionally, you cosmetic dentist may offer to use laser tools to clean your teeth effectively and to make sure that no stains or patches remain.

Dentist mostly use veneers and inlays to restore chipped or badly discoloured teeth. Veneers are usually made of porcelain or composite material and are thin layers permanently attached over the surface of a damaged, discoloured or slightly broken tooth. They are bonded to the front of a patient’s tooth, concealing surface imperfections in the tooth enamel. Veneers make teeth look natural and healthy and little preparation of the tooth is needed. Some dentists regard veneers  as a non-invasive cosmetic dental treatment as very little preparation of the tooth is needed. Veneers are made individually for each patient to match the size and the shape of their teeth. They can be used to resurface teeth and to make them appear straighter, especially when orthodontics treatments are not preferred.

Dental crowns provide a good solution for damaged or weakened teeth (usually by decay or large filling). A crown is an artificial or false tooth that fits over the remaining part of a cracked or damaged tooth. It makes it strong and gives it the shape of a natural looking tooth. Crowns are made of porcelain, gold, acrylic resin, or an amalgam of different materials. They last for many years, although it hugely depends on the health of the tooth underneath and the overall oral hygiene. A temporary crown made of plastic can be placed over the tooth until the permanent crown is prepared. Usually couple of visits to a dentist is needed to complete the treatment but it might be longer if there are teeth are infected. Although, both private and NHS North London clinics offer dental crown treatments, better quality products are only available privately.  Private clinics usually offer basic to very sophisticated crowns (i.e. zirconium based) for best cosmetic results.

Cosmetic dentistry is also about restoring missing teeth, correcting gums or straightening the teeth. Patients suffering  from missing teeth problems might opt for a dental implant treatment (daj linka do dip). Dental implants provide the most natural solution to missing teeth problem. Once the treatment is finished, crowns or bridges attached to implants give the natural looking teeth and confidence to smile. Implants are much more comfortable than conventional bridges and dentures. There are no wobbling or weakened teeth and no movement as it is often the case with partial or full denture. Patients are required to have healthy gums and bones in order to qualify for an implant treatment. Otherwise the reconstruction of the bone area or the sinus lift  might be needed beforehand. Dental implants slow the bone shrinkage process which usually occurs after extraction of a tooth. Implants protect your natural teeth as there is no need for drilling of surrounding teeth. Surgical part of the treatment is painless as it is performed under local anaesthesia. The downside of the implant restorations is the cost treatments tend to be expensive.

The alternative to dental implants is a dental bridge. Bridges are dental crowns attached together and are commonly used by dentists for missing teeth restorations. NHS as well as private surgeries offer this treatment.
Patients who have a number of teeth missing can also have dentures as a replacement for missing teeth. Dentures are not the most comfortable solution to missing teeth. There is some maintenance involved and some speech problems might occur. Dentures are available at NHS and private clinics. There are two types of dentures: partial and full dentures. A partial denture fills in the spaces left by lost teeth. In partial denture, metal attachments connect the denture to your remaining teeth. Partial denture additionally helps to protect your remaining teeth from loss or gum disease. A complete denture replaces all the natural teeth in either the upper or lower jaws. Although dentures provide a natural appearance it takes a bit of time to get used to them.
